Enrichment Activities & Clubs

At Hoover Elementary School, staff and parents collaborate to provide students the opportunity to participate in various enrichment activities throughout the year.

Lego Robotics Teams2-5HPTO sponsors this club that interactively teachers kids Engineering and Robotics Design principles using the First Lego League Program model. Robotics Teams are divided by grade level and meet weekly in the evenings.
5th Grade Leadership5All 5th grade students participate in multiple leadership roles throughout the school year. Students are allowed input in choosing between the various options which include: Safety Patrol, Lunch Buddies, Recess Buddies, Library Helpers, Office Helpers, and Bus Buddies. These activities happen during various times of the day.
Student Council3-5Student Council consists of a board compromised of 4th and 5th graders. There are also 2 representatives from every 3rd – 5th grade classroom. Students organize community activities, such as holiday food drives, and Spirit Days. Student Council meets a couple of times per month during lunch.
AHA Running ClubK-5Students learn to have fun while staying fit with our AHA Running Club. Students either run our track on our East Side, or follow a path around the playground on the West Side to earn hole punches in their AHA Running Card. Tokens and bracelets are earned along the way for mile and marathon markers.
Husky Choir4-54th and 5th grade students who enjoy singing outside of normal music class are part of this choir. They meet during Monday and Wednesday Lunch Recess. These students perform for the students and community throughout the year.
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)3-5The Oregon Battle of the Books is a statewide competition. Students form teams in October. These teams read a list of books provided by OBOB. Teams answer trivia questions about these books in a tournament-style event led by HPTO in February. The winning Hoover team goes on to compete in Regionals.
National Geographic Geography Bee3-5This event, sponsored by National Geographic, is a Geography quiz given to all 3rd through 5th graders at Hoover. There are 3 rounds of competition that lead to a winner that can take a test to qualify for the state competition.
Oregon Spellers Spelling Bee2-5Students in 2nd – 5th grade are given a spelling test with top scorers moving on through 2 more rounds of play until a winner is determined.
Lunch Recess Activities2-5These activities follow a schedule for different grades on different days of the week:
  • Rhythm Club for 2nd and 3rd grade
  • Structured outdoor active games with our PE Teacher
  • Art Club
  • A variety of activities in our Media Center including Maker Space items and Yoga
Talent Show3-5In the spring, our students put on a talent show for the school. Performing in this event requires auditions and rehearsals before the day of the performance. Students sing, play instruments, put on skits, display magic skills, do science experiments and more!
Math Olympics2-5As a culmination of our math curriculum, 2nd – 5th grade compete in the Math Olympics in the spring. This event, split up by grade level, is a fast-paced fun way for students to show off all the learned during math lessons throughout the year. While winners are named at the end of the rounds, the goal is fun and keeping math skills sharp!
