Hoover Happenings – May 1, 2020

Message From the Principal

Dear Hoover Families,

It is the end of our third week of distance learning as we collectively work together. We recognize that parents, students, and staff are navigating a new system that is challenging in multiple aspects. Teachers have been asking for feedback to adapt and support families with their home education needs. Please share your story with a teacher as you encounter celebrations, new learnings about your child and concerns about things that are tricky. We encourage you to be gracious with yourself as a parent as we know everyone is doing the best they can during this time.

Just as engagement in distance learning is different in each home, it is also different in each teacher’s home. The flexibility to operate a functional virtual classroom from home varies for each teacher, each class and each individual household. Thank you for your ongoing support and for taking a moment to honor and appreciate the teacher’s in your child’s life.

Forecasting Enrollment for 2020-2021

Earlier today Hoover families received individual emails (sent to the first contact person on file for each student).

  • Kindergarten – 4th grade families are sharing enrollment intentions for Hoover Elementary next year.
  • 5th grade families received a separate survey to share their intentions for middle school next year.

Please look for your email(s) in your mailbox and complete the requested survey(s) before Friday, May 8.

Online Kindergarten Enrollment Opens Today, May 1

Children who will be 5 years old as of September 1, 2020, are eligible to enroll in kindergarten at the school in their boundary area for the 2020-2021 school year.

Typically, families are asked to enroll in person at their neighborhood school. This year, the enrollment process has moved online. Information about online enrollment and what to expect during kindergarten is available on the district website at https://bit.ly/CSDKinder

Once families have submitted information through the online process, our school office staff will be in contact by phone to confirm the enrollment is complete.

Important Announcement for 4th and 5th Grade Families

We will have open hours next Thursday, May 7, from 11 am – 1 pm for 4th and 5th grade families to come pick up their personal possessions as well as classroom pictures (for those families that ordered them in the Fall).

It is important that you follow these directions when you come:

  • Pick-up will be in front of your child’s classroom
  • Only one person should get out of the car to come get the items
  • Please observe social distancing expectations, keeping at least 6 feet away from other people at all times
  • Give your name to the staff number at the class doorway and they will retrieve your child’s bundle for you

Thank you, in advance, for coming during this time.

New Meal Site in NW Corvallis

The Corvallis School District is continuing to support the needs of families in our community. A new site to support students in getting a FREE healthy lunch has been established at the juncture of Witham Hill and Pinecone (at the Corvallis Bus Transit pick-up stop) on Monday-Friday from 12-1 pm (or until they run out of food).

Look for the Student Transportation of America Bus and the signs for Free Lunch. If you drive to the site there is room to briefly pull your car in behind the bus and grab lunches. Children up to 18 years of age must be present to receive a lunch.
